How I use my $50 grocery budget: week 6/18/12

This week I did things a little differently. My in-laws came to town yesterday and I didn't want to have the kids worn out from shopping, so I did most of my shopping on Saturday (not that we actually needed much for this week's meals) and will run to Meijer for toilet paper when it's convenient this week. I also made sure to leave a little wiggle room in case we need/want some fresh produce while I'm there. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of the grocery trip this week either, so please enjoy this picture of me at 30 weeks pregnant instead.

Last week's carry-over: $10.05

Meijer:
7 boxes spaghetti $.89 each
bananas $.44/lb (reduced price cart)
bag (4ct) avocados $2.99
discounted lettuce blend $1.71
6 oz blackberries $1
$12.62

Walmart:
8 speed stick deodorant $.98 each
2 suave deodorant $.98 each
1 gallon whole milk $2.37
1/2 gal almond breeze $2.88
Total: $15.71

Meijer (planned trip for later this week- I might add a 4th package, if we don't seem to need as much wiggle room for produce):
3 MB Toilet paper (12 dbl rolls) $4.99 ($16.02 after tax)

$15.70 left to work with/carry-over

edit: I bought 11 bags of frozen vegetables as part of the buy 10 for $10 get the 11th free promotion at Meijer too. $5.70 leftover for next week.

This week's menu:
dinners:
  • leftovers from father's day
  • burgers, roasted potatoes
  • tacos/burritos
  • chow mein
  • spaghetti
  • fried rice
  • salad

  1. Thanks for this post. I have been looking for grocery saving tips. I want to keep myself afloat financially. I had to sell my structured settlement payments in order to get out of debt, so now, I am trying to save money and get ahead. Hopefully, I can become as savvy as you. Thanks!
